Posted Nov 11, 2018, Updated May 18, 2024 Since I like to put most of my energy into the main dish and (of course) dessert, I stick with healthy & easy sides with a handful of ingredients, like these roasted parmesan green beans. This Parmesan green beans recipe is made with fresh green beans, but can also be made with frozen with just one extra step (thawing). It is gluten-free and low-calorie so you have more room for dessert! 😉 If you love these, you’ll also love these apple cider green beans!
Parmesan Green Beans: Ingredients and Substitutions
There are only 6 ingredients in this roasted green bean recipe, so let’s chat about them and possible substitutions!
Fresh Green Beans. You can use frozen green beans instead of fresh, just follow one of the two methods I laid out in the recipe card (thawing or roasting from frozen). You can use regular or french green beans! I do not recommend using canned green beans in this recipe. Olive Oil. avocado oil or canola oil are good substitutes. Parmesan Cheese.  I recommend using a finely grated parmesan cheese (powder-like) in this parmesan green beans recipe. It coats the beans so nicely and browns really well. You can add a sprinkle of the larger shreds for presentation if you like!
How to Make Parmesan Green Beans
Let’s discuss how to make parmesan green beans, and don’t forget to watch the video.
How to Wash Green Beans
The first step in this recipe is to trim & wash the beans. Once the green beans are washed and/or thawed and mostly dry, put them in a large bowl and toss with olive oil util evenly coated. Then, add the sea salt, garlic powder and black pepper and stir. Next, place the green beans on a large baking sheet and bake in preheated oven for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, remove the green beans from the oven , sprinkle with parmesan cheese and stir. Return to oven and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the cheese is golden brown, stirring once half way through. Remove from oven and serve immediately.
Serve
These parmesan green beans are best when they are served immediately, crispy and warm straight from the oven with your favorite dinner recipes.
Store
Store the parmesan green beans in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Reheating in the microwave will cause them to lose some of their crispiness after being stored in the refrigerator. To reheat in the oven and restore some crispness, warm them at 350 degrees F until they are warmed through.
