Quick Tips for Making Poultry Seasoning
Poultry seasoning is a blend of spices—most of which you’ll have on hand already. You can find it at the grocery store with the other spices or order it online. If ordering, it should be a brown/green color and generally doesn’t contain salt. It’s easy to make at home and delicious in stuffing, broth or chicken soup.
I use ground rosemary in this recipe. You can make ground rosemary with dried rosemary in a spice grinder or magic bullet or using a mortar and pestle. This poultry seasoning recipe should be a relatively fine powder. Sprinkle it into chicken casseroles, dumplings, or soups. I also use it to season a roast turkey (or chicken): rub the outside of the bird with olive oil and then season with poultry seasoning, salt, and pepper. It makes the most crispy, savory skin and tastes wonderful!
Storage
Keep poultry seasoning in a cupboard for up to 6 months in an airtight container or spice jar. It’s the perfect substitute for pricey bottles of poultry seasoning, and while it makes 3 tablespoons, this recipe can easily be doubled or tripled. Did you make this homemade Poultry Seasoning?
