Posted Oct 25, 2024 I have always made chili using homemade chili seasoning. It just tastes so much more delicious than store-bought varieties (just like homemade taco seasoning), and it’s way less expensive to make your own. Plus, if you buy organic spices you know you are only using pure spices with no additives or fillers. Seriously, I didn’t realize what was actually in chili seasoning until I had to check the labels for a friend who was visiting with severe food allergies. I found out some store-bought brands contain flour, preservatives, and in some cases artificial food dyes! It was then that I was glad I had been making my own chili seasoning mix all along!

Spices. Ok – I’m not going to break down the amount of each spice, but I will say you can taste and adjust them to your liking. I suggest using organic spices for the best results. Adjusting the heat. This is a very flavorful, but mild chili seasoning recipe. If you’d like to add heat, add cayenne pepper and more chili powder. Sugar. you can leave this out of the mixture if you’d like, but I think it balances out the spices in chili very well and it does not make your chili taste sweet.

How to Make Chili Seasoning

This recipe is super simple, but as always we will walk through it step-by-step, and you can watch the video for further guidance. Begin by combining all the spices in a glass jar. Then, shake to combine. Next, label it “Chili Seasoning” so you don’t forget what’s inside! I also recommend making a note of the spice with the earliest expiration date and writing it on the jar.

How to Use Chili Seasoning Mix

Use 6 Tablespoons of this chili seasoning mix in any recipe that calls for a packet of chili seasoning. I suggest using this homemade chili seasoning in the following recipes:

Easy Beef Chili (pictured below) Turkey Chili Crockpot Chicken Chili Vegetarian Chili White Bean Chicken Chili

Store

Store the chili seasoning mix in a glass jar with a lid in a cool, dry place for up to 6 months. I suggest writing down the earliest expiration date on the jar, so you know how long your seasoning will last.
