Posted Jun 10, 2024, Updated Jul 22, 2024 After my daughter and I went to NYC and paid $25 for a fancy milkshake (no, I’m not exaggerating), we came home determined to create a delicious homemade chocolate milkshake recipe for a fraction of the price. This chocolate milkshake is the most delicious shake we’ve ever had. It has a rich chocolate flavor (from both chocolate ice cream & chocolate syrup), is thick and creamy. Also try these strawberry milkshake and vanilla milkshake recipes. Plus, this recipe is so easy to make in 5 minutes! I love that I get to make it with organic ingredients and skip any artificial flavors, preservatives, etc. Top it with some homemade whipped cream and chocolate sauce for a fun and delicious dessert!
Chocolate Milkshake Recipe: Ingredients & Substitutions
Whole milk. heavy cream or half and half are great substitutes for whole milk. Chocolate ice cream. use your favorite variety. Chocolate Syrup. I suggest organic chocolate syrup. You can make your own homemade chocolate sauce as well! Vanilla extract. Vanilla bean paste can be used in place of extract.
How to Make a Chocolate Milkshake
This recipe is very easy to make – as always we’ll walk through the steps together, and don’t forget to watch the video. Begin my removing the chocolate ice cream from the freezer about 5 minutes before making this recipe for it to soften slightly. I suggest using a high-powered blender (Vitamix) to make this chocolate milkshake. Once the ice cream is slightly soft, put the ingredients in the order listed in the container of a blending container, breaking up the ice cream as you add it to the blender (for easier blending). Then, blend, staring on low speed and increasing to high, for 15-20 seconds for a thick milkshake. Do not over blend or it will be runny.
Serve
Pour into 2 to 4 glasses depending on how much you want each person to enjoy! Top the chocolate milkshakes with whipped cream, chocolate sprinkles, extra chocolate sauce, etc.
Store/Freeze
I doubt you will have any leftover chocolate shake, but if you do, you can store it in the freezer for up to 1 week in a glass jar. Let it thaw enough to drink in the refrigerator for 1-2 hours before drinking. If you make and love our recipes, it would mean so much to me if you would leave a comment and rating!
