Posted Aug 26, 2018, Updated Oct 12, 2024 Is there any other food as perfect and versatile as an avocado? Use it to make Guacamole, creamy smoothies, and this avocado pasta sauce recipe. Avocado pasta sauce is made with 5, nutritious ingredients in under 5 minutes! It’s the perfect dish for an easy weeknight dinner because it’s so easy to make (also try this pumpkin pasta sauce)! This recipe is also packed with nutrients! It’s paleo, vegan, and has no gluten, dairy or sugar! It’s loaded with healthy fats which is perfect for our kids’ cute little developing brains (and mommy’s hair and skin).
Avocado Pasta Sauce: Ingredients and Substitutions
Avocados. This recipe calls for two, medium avocados. 3 small or one XXL avocado would work. Fresh Basil. I don’t recommend substitutions, but if you must, dried basil could be used, but it will change the taste of the sauce (but it will still be great)! Olive Oil. Avocado oil is the best substitute. Lemon Juice. Fresh or bottled works great. Minced Garlic. I often substitute garlic powder for the minced garlic.
How to Make Avocado Pasta Sauce
As always, we will chat about how to make this recipe step-by-step! It’s insanely simple, so there’s not much to remark on, but I will give you all the tips and tricks I can! Begin by adding all the ingredients to the container of a blender or food processor. Add the oil first, then avocado and then the rest. Then, process or blend until the mixture is smooth. Depending on the size of your container, you may need to stop, scrape down the sides, and then continue processing/blending. Choose the consistency. make it chunky or totally smooth – it’s completely up to you.
Serve
I suggest stirring it into warm foods (pasta, rice, etc.) instead of heating it up by itself because too much heat changes the nature of the avocado. Here are some serving suggestions:
Serve it over your favorite pasta (like this homemade whole wheat pasta) or gluten-free pasta! Toss your favorite zucchini noodles (or any other veggie noodles) with this avocado sauce! Mix it into rice or cauliflower rice for a great side dish! Serve it with meatballs: homemade meatballs, chicken meatballs, turkey meatballs. Use it as a creamy dressing for your favorite green salad! My personal preference: I eat this avocado pasta sauce recipe most often with this recipe for balsamic sausage and peppers.
Store/Freeze
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, or in the freezer for up to 1 month. Try to let as little air as possible get to the sauce so it doesn’t brown by using a container that just fits the amount you need to store, or cover the surface with extra lemon juice.
